Rheinmetall secured a low triple-digit million-euro order for 155mm shells through 2027, as Q2 operating profit rose 115% to 562 million euros.

Rheinmetall has locked in another sizable artillery contract, reinforcing the Düsseldorf defense group's standing as a key supplier to Western armed forces even as its share price continues to lag well behind last year's peak.

The company announced on September 14 that it had secured an order for a five-digit number of 155-millimeter artillery shells from an international customer. The deal carries a total volume in the low triple-digit million-euro range, with deliveries scheduled to run through the end of 2027.

Analyst Support and a Broadening Order Mix

Goldman Sachs analyst Sam Burgess reaffirmed a price target of 2,300 euros on September 8, arguing that even under pessimistic assumptions for the ammunition business, the stock retains substantial valuation upside.

The new business spans several divisions. Rheinmetall Canada is supplying replacement components for mobile launcher systems to the U.S. Navy under a recent agreement. Over the summer, the group also picked up contracts for Bundeswehr mobile rescue stations and for the modernization of the German Navy's Bayern frigate.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Rheinmetall?

Second-Quarter Momentum and Full-Year Targets

The demand surge is visible in the financials. Operating profit jumped 115 percent to 562 million euros in the second quarter, while revenue grew by more than two-thirds year over year. Management is guiding toward full-year sales of up to 14.2 billion euros, with an operating margin of roughly 19 percent. Market participants expect fresh signals on November 5, when third-quarter figures are due.

UK Expansion and New Product Lines

At the DVD 2026 defense exhibition in Britain on Wednesday, Rheinmetall unveiled two new systems — "Timber Wolf" and "Silver Wolf" — expanding its so-called "Wolf Pack" family to address shifting operational requirements. A day earlier, subsidiary Rheinmetall UK brought a new vibration testing facility online, broadening local capacity for demanding development and qualification work.

Those technological initiatives are unfolding against a changing market. According to a Reuters report, European armed forces are increasingly examining cheaper missiles and interception systems in response to battlefield experience in Ukraine and the Middle East — a shift that could reshape procurement priorities over the medium term.

Naval Pipeline and Sector Headwinds

On the domestic front, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said Monday that the German government plans to procure a fourth intelligence-gathering vessel of a new class and will submit the corresponding budget draft to parliament for approval. Rheinmetall builds these units; the keel for the third ship in the series was recently laid in Wolgast.

Analyst sentiment remains constructive despite recent market weakness. BNP Paribas reportedly trimmed its price target on September 11 while keeping an "Outperform" rating on the shares.

Investor Calendar and Chart Picture

Management turns its attention to direct engagement with the capital markets in the coming week. Rheinmetall will attend the Berenberg and Goldman Sachs German Corporate Conference on Wednesday, followed by a presentation at Baader Bank AG's Investment Conference on Thursday. Those appearances offer a chance to lay out operational priorities and the order situation for the remainder of the year.

The stock closed Friday at 1,016.00 euros, down 35 percent since the start of the year and well below its 52-week high of 2,007.00 euros. Trading 26 percent below its 200-day moving average, the shares are still searching for a durable floor.
