Rheinmetall Slips 2% as Abu Dhabi Talks Rattle Defence Sector, Analysts Trim Targets but Keep Buy Ratings
Published on 11/01/2026 at 13:31 | Editorial boerse-global.deRheinmetall shares closed Friday at €1,032.60, down 2.0%, as reports of planned talks between Russia, Ukraine and the US in Abu Dhabi weighed on European defence names more broadly. According to media reports, the November negotiations have made investors jittery — and neither source points to a company-specific trigger behind the sector move.
The retreat came even as Deutsche Bank Research cut its price target on the Düsseldorf-based group from €1,800 to €1,650 on Tuesday, holding its rating at "Buy." The lower marker did not come with a downgrade. UBS had already trimmed its own target on 20 October, taking it from €1,600 to €1,360 while also sticking with a "Buy" recommendation. Both houses lowered their sights without abandoning their positive stance on the stock.
Arson Probe Widens at Kassel-Calden Site
Investigators are treating a fire at Rheinmetall's construction site at Kassel-Calden airport as suspected arson. Three construction vehicles burned in the night to Friday, with additional machinery damaged. Police are examining a purported claim of responsibility published online, and according to Tagesschau the state security service has joined the investigation. Authorities suspect arson, though no confirmed cause has been announced.

Caracal Handover and Telford Gun Hall
On the operational front, Rheinmetall handed over the first series-production Caracal vehicles to the German and Dutch armed forces on Thursday, announcing the delivery on Friday. More than 1,500 vehicles are slated for delivery by 2030.
The company also opened its "UK Gun Hall" in Telford on 22 October, a facility it says is designed for independent production of large-calibre weapons in the UK. And Rheinmetall confirmed it will present its naval portfolio at Euronaval from 3 to 6 November 2026, with highlights including the GMF-140 frigate, the Kraken K3 unmanned drone, the Millennium Gun naval cannon and the MASS decoy system.
Investors have a further date circled: Rheinmetall's financial calendar puts publication of its third-quarter 2026 report on 5 November 2026.
