Ripple's Institutional Wins Land in Custody and Payments — But XRP Demand Stays Unquantified
Published on 10/28/2026 at 06:52 | Editorial boerse-global.deRipple spent the past two days rolling out partnerships across custody, payments and tokenized funds. What the announcements do not include is a single figure for how much XRP anyone will need to buy. That gap between infrastructure headlines and token demand is the thread running through the whole batch.
Take the custody news first. BNY has extended its institutional custody platform to cover XRP and RLUSD, giving the token a concrete new route into institutional safekeeping. Access is not the same as inflows, though — no client flows or purchases can be inferred from the arrangement. Ripple and BNY also plan to explore direct issuance and redemption of RLUSD and tokenized trade finance, work that depends on client demand and, where applicable, regulatory approvals.
The Robinhood tie-up announced yesterday spans several areas at once: RLUSD, institutional settlement on the XRP Ledger and integration of Ripple Treasury. RLUSD is already live on Robinhood Chain and at Bitstamp, according to the company, while availability inside the Robinhood app is slated for later in the year. Ripple describes XRP and RLUSD jointly as the foundation of these functions — a framing that says nothing about how much of the load XRP itself will carry.
Instant Pay Moves On-Chain, With a Waiting List
C2FO and Ripple intend to shift the financing and settlement activity behind C2FO Instant Pay onto the XRP Ledger. The service lets suppliers draw early payment against approved invoices, with capital providers funding the advances and interested corporates able to join a waiting list. The XRP Ledger and RLUSD are meant to handle settlement. Nothing in the announcement obliges anyone to buy or hold XRP.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XRP?
A second initiative points the same direction without adding numbers. Arf, in a collaboration announced on 22 October, plans short-term settlement liquidity denominated in RLUSD for licensed firms in cross-border payments, with the first phase delivering liquidity directly on the XRP Ledger. That is explicitly RLUSD liquidity — an addition to the network's applications, not a pledge of XRP purchases.
One offering is already running. Aviva Investors launched a tokenized share class of its Sterling Liquidity Fund on the XRP Ledger on Monday and invested GBP 50 million of its own money, according to the firm. It is a genuine use case for the network, but the money went into fund units, not into XRP — a distinction that matters when weighing the token.
A Billion XRP Sits in Ripple-Controlled Wallets
Supply-side headlines deserve the same scrutiny. The 1 billion XRP released from escrow on 1 October was, according to media reports, still sitting in Ripple-controlled wallets as of yesterday. An escrow release is not a sale of those holdings.
XRP at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
The network's technical track, meanwhile, has slipped. Support for the fixCleanup3_4_0 amendment briefly fell below the required threshold on 22 October, restarting the fourteen-day approval window and pushing the expected activation to 4 November. That date holds only if backing stays above the threshold for the duration of the window.
Put together, the picture is mixed rather than directional. Institutional plumbing around XRP is widening, yet neither the announced network usage nor the unlocked holdings establishes buying or selling pressure on their own.
