SanDisk shares finished Friday at EUR 1,160.00, down 7.2% on the session, as a broad retreat in semiconductor and memory names dragged the stock lower. Over the full week the decline reached 18%, and the shares now sit 44% below their 52-week high.

The downdraft had multiple sources. Rising bond yields and inflation worries set the tone, and nagging doubts about the scale and financing of artificial intelligence buildouts added to the gloom — AP reported that chipmakers ranked among the biggest losers in the recent bout of volatility. Traders are increasingly weighing the cost of expanding AI-related capacity against the money still needed to fund it.

A Chinese DRAM Roadmap Lands on NAND Names

Memory-specific pressures piled on top. Investors took a dim view of mounting competition from China and the higher-rate environment, while uncertainty over how long existing memory-component shortages will persist kept buyers on the sidelines.

The trigger for the sharpest leg down came on October 10, when Cao Kanyu, president of CXMT, told the Integrated Circuit and Chiplet Conference in Shanghai that his company had made progress on a 4F² DRAM architecture and intends to roll out DDR5 RDIMMs for servers by year-end. The announcement set off selling across memory manufacturers, and SanDisk was caught in the wash even though its business centers on flash rather than DRAM.

Meta Taps SanDisk as Sole Flash Supplier for Its Next Headset

Against that backdrop, the company's operating news has struggled for attention. On Wednesday SanDisk was confirmed as the exclusive supplier of next-generation flash memory solutions for Meta's planned VR glasses. The arrangement covers microSD Express cards and USB-C flash drives, among other products, and the headset is slated to launch in spring 2027. The win locks in a place for SanDisk in a future hardware generation from one of the world's largest technology companies.

A day earlier, SanDisk unveiled the Guardian Series, a line of high-endurance memory cards built for continuous recording. The cards target dashcams and private surveillance systems and offer capacities of up to 512 gigabytes.

Earnings Call Set for October 29

Management will discuss results for the first quarter of fiscal 2027 on October 29, 2026, with the conference call scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Pacific time. The report should shed light on operating demand in the flash business and on how well the company is defending its margins as competition intensifies.
