ServiceNow's AI Pitch Now Hinges on Whether Customers Pay for Control
Published on 10/27/2026 at 16:30 | Editorial boerse-global.deTwo brokerage upgrades have handed ServiceNow a louder vote of confidence, but the more probing question sits underneath the higher price targets: can the company turn its push to govern enterprise AI into revenue that shows up in the accounts?
Cantor Fitzgerald lifted its target to $201 from $174 on Tuesday, according to media reports, keeping an "Overweight" rating. Bank of America raised its own target to $180 from $150 on Friday and reaffirmed its buy recommendation. Both moves frame the run-up to the company's third-quarter 2026 results, scheduled for release after the market close on October 28.
The upgrades sketch an optimistic picture. They do not, on their own, settle the economic argument behind ServiceNow's recent product announcements.
Two Announcements, One Underlying Thesis
ServiceNow's case rests on a pairing that emerged on Thursday. In one release, the company said customer Thrive has deployed its AI platform in customer support and reached a 73% first-contact resolution rate. In another, it unveiled "Operational Resilience" for financial institutions, a product designed to bring risk, security, governance and workflow together — including the ability to detect and respond to unsanctioned AI.
Read side by side, the two disclosures describe a single strategic shift: ServiceNow is moving beyond what an AI agent can do to how reliably a company can oversee it. That is a more interesting yardstick for the stock than any single target price.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying ServiceNow?
The Thrive figure is a concrete result in an existing workflow, which makes it more telling than another feature rollout. Its reach, though, stops at that one deployment. It cannot be extrapolated across the customer base, nor can it be converted directly into a revenue forecast. The number is evidence of a possible benefit, not a substitute for ServiceNow's actual business performance.
A Survey That Sizes the Problem — Not the Market
ServiceNow's own research underlines why control features might matter. A study published on October 20 — the primary source materials differ on whether it appeared on the 20th or the 21st — found that 90% of organizations surveyed worldwide had experienced a security incident involving agentic AI in the previous year. More than 3,700 security officers took part.
The finding describes the problem ServiceNow's controls are aimed at. It says nothing about whether affected organizations will buy those products or increase spending on them. A widely felt security gap can make a business approach plausible; it does not prove commercial success. Nor does the survey speak to the safety of ServiceNow's own products — it captures the experiences of the organizations polled, a distinction investors should keep firmly in view.
The same caution applies to the technical plumbing. ServiceNow has said its personal AI agent Arc, announced as generally available about a week ago, is steered by its Super Intelligence Control Tower and secured by NVIDIA OpenShell. The company also said AI Passport will integrate NVIDIA OpenShell and NVIDIA Sentry. Together these could form a stronger offering for controlled AI use. Whether customers see enough added value is a separate question, and one the Thrive result alone cannot answer.
What the Quarter Must Show
For now, a constructive case can be built as long as concrete customer outcomes back the product strategy. Further evidence of economic benefit would give the upgraded targets added substance. If such proof fails to materialize, the skeptical reading gains weight.
That makes October 28 the next real test. Investors will be watching whether the business development underpins expectations for the AI initiatives — and how convincingly management explains the economic worth of its AI offerings.
Not every product milestone needs to hit the financials immediately. For a durable investment case, however, technical capability and commercial results have to meet. The story here is not simply "more AI." It is the pairing of usefulness and control — and whether that pairing can be turned into a business that holds up.
