Shell Lines Up Three Portfolio Moves as Buyback Presses On
Published on 10/27/2026 at 13:10 | Editorial boerse-global.deShell has kept its share repurchase machine running through the back half of October, disclosing fresh purchases on both the London and Amsterdam exchanges while two much larger questions about its asset base take shape in the background.
The company bought 1,027,233 shares on the LSE and 515,198 on XAMS on Friday, both for cancellation under its existing buyback programme. Those figures follow Thursday's 1,075,000 shares in London and 535,000 in Amsterdam, and Wednesday's 1,025,000 and 525,000 respectively — all logged in the same mandatory disclosures and earmarked for the same purpose.
Away from the trading desk, Shell and ExxonMobil are weighing an exit from their jointly owned Infineum chemicals business. Reuters, citing the Financial Times, reported Thursday that the two equal partners are exploring a sale that could value the company at roughly $8 billion, with Bank of America advising. The process is at an early stage and may conclude without a deal; Shell declined to comment.

Vaaris Takes the Nigerian Distribution Arm
A second divestment is further along. As Reuters reported on 13 October, Shell has agreed to hand its entire stake in the Shell Nigeria Gas Group to Vaaris Energy. The business runs domestic gas distribution, and no purchase price was disclosed. Completion remains conditional on regulatory approvals.
On the upstream side, Shell has secured a long-awaited green light. The British government approved development of the Jackdaw gas field on 21 October, with Adura — the Shell-Equinor joint venture — as operator. Shell welcomed the decision, calling it an important step for UK energy security and investment, and Adura will now take the project forward. According to the government, production could start by the end of October, with peak output expected to lift UK gas production by around 6%.
Refining Guidance Points to a Record Quarter
Shell's third-quarter 2026 outlook, issued on 7 October, flagged expected exploration write-offs of about $0.3 billion. The refining margin, meanwhile, is forecast at $42 per barrel for the quarter — a figure Reuters described on 20 October as a record.
