Siemens Healthineers' Buyback Tops 3.37 Million Shares as Imaging Demand Firms Up

Siemens Healthineers has quietly kept its foot on the accelerator with its share repurchase program, picking up another 160,000 of its own shares between September 21 and 27. Since the buyback launched on June 1, the Erlangen-based medical technology group has retired a cumulative 3,374,359 shares, according to mandatory disclosures. The steady market purchases shore up the capital structure at a moment when the company is juggling a packed product calendar and a still-cautious spending climate among hospital clients.
A timely lift for the imaging franchise
On Wednesday, Jefferies flagged encouraging signals for the fourth quarter of the fiscal year, pointing in particular to gathering momentum in the imaging segment. The research house kept its "Buy" rating and reiterated a price target of 50 euros. The company had recorded its pre-close call for the just-completed quarter a day earlier.
That nudge arrives when the group could use it. Many clinics have been holding back on big-ticket capital equipment, and a revival in demand feeds straight into Siemens Healthineers' most important earnings engine. Underpinning the segment's technology stack is the sensor fab in Forchheim, which produces semiconductors for photon-counting CT scanners.
Diagnostics pipeline widens on several fronts
Alongside its imaging business, the company is pushing ahead with clinical diagnostics. On Tuesday it began the global rollout of the Innovance D-Dimer 2.0 assay, a coagulation test that carries CE marking and has secured clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration. The group then showcased fresh diagnostic approaches at the German Congress for Laboratory Medicine in Hamburg on Thursday and Friday.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Siemens Healthineers?
Further out, Siemens Healthineers announced a partnership with Novo on September 21 aimed at improving early detection of liver conditions such as MASLD and MASH and broadening access to non-invasive blood tests. Three days later, on September 24, the company reported on the use of its NAEOTOM Alpha.Peak computed tomography scanner at the RHÖN-KLINIKUM Campus Bad Neustadt, where the system is being deployed to visualize complex vascular structures. In neuroradiology, the same site relies on the Naeotom Alpha.Peak for high-resolution imaging of neurovascular anatomy, including stenoses and aneurysms.
Radiotherapy bet carries a long fuse
Roughly a week ago, management unveiled Accela, a radiotherapy platform built on NeoArc technology that is designed to deliver stereotactic multi-lesion irradiation in as little as 60 seconds. Since that presentation, the stock has shed 2.7 percent. Jefferies analyst Julien Dormois reaffirmed his buy recommendation and 50-euro target on Wednesday, calling Accela a quantum leap in radiation therapy. JPMorgan's David Adlington likewise highlighted the platform's potential, maintaining an "Overweight" rating and a 57.40-euro price target.
Commercial reality, however, demands patience. Because of the approvals still required, the need to install equipment and the ramp-up of production, Jefferies does not expect meaningful revenue from Accela until 2027/2028. The system is not yet available for sale in any market, with FDA clearance among the outstanding regulatory hurdles.
Siemens Healthineers at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
Valuation still well below its peak
Investors will get a clearer read on the current trading picture in a few weeks: on November 5, Siemens Healthineers presents its fourth-quarter figures for fiscal 2026 at an analyst conference. The shares closed Friday at 37.92 euros, up 1.1 percent on the day, but down 16 percent since the start of the year and 24 percent below their 52-week high. Whether the encouraging signs in imaging can translate into a lasting turn on the stock market is a question the coming financial reports will have to answer.
