Siemens Packs a Week With Rail Deals, a Buyback Update and a Healthineers Rebrand
Published on 11/08/2026 at 17:12 | Editorial boerse-global.deSiemens spent the past several days stacking up corporate announcements — a completed acquisition, fresh metro signalling contracts, a UK rail investment and steady progress on its share buyback — even as a broad technology selloff dragged its stock down 2.9% on Friday.
The retreat came amid a global correction in AI and semiconductor names that hit European equities across the board. Reuters linked the sour mood to fears that tighter regulation of the AI sector and a slower build-out of data centres could lie ahead, and the agency explicitly named Siemens Energy among the AI equipment makers caught in the downdraft. That points to a market-wide backdrop rather than anything specific to Siemens AG itself.
Deutsche Bank stays on the sidelines
Deutsche Bank Research kept its "Hold" rating on Siemens on Friday with a price target of 270 euros. Analyst Gaël de-Bray pointed to mixed results from competitors in the automation business, while flagging Siemens' continued strong order momentum in electrification as a bright spot.
Chippenham hub anchors UK rail push
Siemens opened a new technology and innovation centre for rail infrastructure in Chippenham on Friday, putting the investment at 115 million euros. According to the company, the site safeguards 800 local jobs.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Siemens?
The UK move capped a busy stretch for Siemens Mobility. On Thursday, Siemens reported signalling orders for two metro projects in Taoyuan, Taiwan — the Brown Line and the Green Line extension — which will be equipped with the company's Signaling X technology, including fully automated operation. The new sections are slated to enter service in the mid-2030s.
A day earlier, Siemens said it had closed the purchase of key businesses from Italy's MERMEC Group after all required approvals were in hand. The acquired operations sit within Siemens Mobility, according to the company.
Healthineers to shed the Siemens name
Thursday also brought word from Siemens Healthineers that it plans to rename itself simply "Healthineers." In a joint statement, Siemens and its listed medical-technology unit tied the change to the company's path toward independence, pointing to a planned deconsolidation through a spin-off in 2027. Unlike the MERMEC transaction, which Siemens has already reported as complete, the separation remains at the planning stage.

Buyback rolls on
Siemens also reported further progress on its share repurchase programme, buying roughly 360,000 of its own shares in the period from 26 October through 1 November. A disclosure dated 2 November put the total volume since the programme began on 1 July at around 5.6 million shares.
Investors get their next major datapoint on 12 November, when Siemens publishes fourth-quarter results alongside preliminary figures for fiscal 2026. The company has scheduled the release for 07:00 CET.
