Siemens has unveiled a set of AI-driven manufacturing tools developed with NVIDIA, and the numbers attached to them are striking: up to 85% less engineering effort when commissioning a production line virtually, and as much as 20% lower costs through agent-based production planning. The announcements, made Monday at the company's electronics plant in Erlangen, give investors something more tangible than a technology alliance headline — but they describe potential customer benefits, not savings Siemens has already booked group-wide.

That distinction sits at the heart of the current investment case. Board member Cedrik Neike, speaking to Reuters, set a target of lifting the automation level in manufacturing to 70–80%, giving the NVIDIA collaboration a concrete goal corridor toward AI-supported autonomous factories. The two levers — virtual commissioning and agent-based planning — address separate tasks and cannot be added together into a single savings rate.

Erlangen Expansion Adds a Financial Frame

Siemens plans to invest €500 million in expanding the Erlangen electronics site through 2030, according to Reuters. The spending commitment provides a firm financial anchor for the location, though it should not be confused with productivity gains already achieved. For shareholders, the two sides belong together: substantial improvements are being held out, and the plant build-out is being funded at the same time.

What the market does with those promises is another matter. Jefferies downgraded Siemens from Buy to Hold on October 15, while simultaneously raising its price target to €300 from €277. Analyst Lucas Ferhani pointed to strong order intake and improved guidance transparency as reasons the positive outlook is now largely reflected in market expectations. The higher target and the softer rating are not contradictory — business progress can be acknowledged even as the room for further revaluation looks limited.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Siemens?

The stock was trading at €260.95, and the recent weakness itself offers no evidence of operational deterioration. Media reports attributed the pressure mainly to a weak sector backdrop and the negative market reaction to ABB's quarterly figures; no fresh Siemens company announcement accompanied the move. The lesson from ABB is that even a record order intake does not automatically support a share price.

A €2 Billion Rail Order Anchors the Bull Case

On the positive side of the ledger, Siemens Mobility reported a major contract on Thursday: the Landesnahverkehrsgesellschaft Niedersachsen and the Regionalverband Großraum Braunschweig ordered 113 battery-powered trains. The order value, including maintenance and depots, exceeds €2 billion, with an option for up to 132 additional trains. That option is not the same as a confirmed order, but the signed deal — pairing vehicles with long-term servicing and associated facilities — is a concrete business anchor rather than a mere declaration of technological intent.

Execution of the order backlog now becomes the decisive factor. New bookings support the outlook, yet a convincing re-rating would require Siemens to show that more emerges from them than added visibility. The next hard checkpoint is the scheduled release of fourth-quarter and fiscal 2026 figures on November 12, when operating developments can be measured against expectations.

Siemens at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Until then, investors would do well to keep two levels apart. The reported orders are concrete progress. Whether they, together with the AI prospects, create enough headroom for a convincing share-price performance depends on their economic conversion — and that is precisely where it will be decided whether the recent weakness opens an opportunity or merely exposes higher valuation risks.
