Siemens will supply signalling and control technology for two metro routes in Taoyuan, Taiwan, the company said Thursday, with ST Engineering named as the client. The scope also covers automation of operations. The announcement did not shield the stock: Siemens shares closed Friday down 2.9%, caught in a wider European pullback that Reuters linked to uncertainty over AI-related equities following the US election outcome.

Driverless operation targeted for mid-2030s

The contracts cover the Brown Line and the extension of the Green Line. Siemens is contributing its Signaling X technology, while ST Engineering handles project management and system integration. The new equipment is designed to support fully automated GoA4 operation along with train monitoring. Revenue from the work is not expected to hit the top line soon — commissioning of the new sections is scheduled for the mid-2030s.

Chippenham hub secures 800 jobs

Rail infrastructure was in focus on the corporate side as well. Siemens opened a manufacturing and research centre for rail infrastructure in Chippenham, England, investing EUR 115 million. The site employs 800 people, and the company said the centre safeguards those local positions. The facility sits within Siemens Mobility and concentrates on technology and innovation for rail infrastructure.
