Silver's Next Test Is 53 Dollars — and the Case for a Turnaround Is Thinner Than It Looks
Published on 10/24/2026 at 13:01 | Editorial boerse-global.deSilver traders went into the weekend with a single number in their sights: 53.00 USD per troy ounce. A break below that level would put the 50.00 USD mark on the radar as the next possible target, according to media reports cited in the latest technical assessments. The COMEX front-month contract settled at 53.96 USD an ounce, so the cushion is thin.
What separates a reflex bounce from a genuine stabilization is the crux of the debate. Short-term buying could claw back losses, but a brighter outlook would first require the market to recapture the price zones it has already surrendered. No such reversal signal has appeared in the technical work published yesterday, which remains pointed to the downside.
Support Levels Are Not a Turning Point
For a bullish reversal, the technical assessments published yesterday set a first hurdle at a climb above 55.00 USD. A sustained move through 60.00 USD would defuse the negative scenario they describe. Both figures are conditions of a possible recovery, not announced price targets.
The distinction matters for investors: support describes an area where buyers may slow a decline. It guarantees neither a floor nor a subsequent uptrend. Nor does an approach toward oversold territory substitute for a confirmed reversal signal.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Silber Preis?
Two Engines Behind the Selling
The pressure is not coming from a single direction. Ole Hansen of Saxo Bank points to inflation worries stoked by rising oil prices, with attacks on Saudi energy facilities and tensions in the Middle East reinforcing fears of persistently high energy costs. At the precious metals desk, the dominant concern has been that the Federal Reserve might therefore keep monetary policy tight for longer.
Silver also took hits from a second, more mechanical source. The news agency IANS reports selling tied to the selloff in technology stocks and to additional margin calls. Such demands can force investors to liquidate positions to raise cash. Justin Lin of Global X likewise sees possible liquidity-driven selling against the backdrop of falling tech shares.
That makes the recent weakness something other than a pure reassessment of silver demand. Part of the selling pressure appears linked to stress in other market segments — a distinction that separates liquidity-driven liquidation from an investment decision aimed squarely at silver.
Industrial Demand Offers Little Support
On the demand side, a further drag is building. Metals Focus expects industrial silver demand to decline in 2026, forecasting roughly 640 million ounces — a drop of 3%. Photovoltaic demand is projected to fall 19%, as material savings and substitution reduce the silver needed per unit.
The Silver Institute and Metals Focus both stand behind the 2026 forecast. It is an estimate of the year ahead, not demand already fully measured. Even so, it explains why a purely technical rebound would not automatically clear the fundamental concerns.
Silber Preis at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
The Fed and Inflation Data Are the Next Hurdles
The Federal Reserve meets on 27–28 October. Markets overwhelmingly expect rates to stay unchanged at that gathering, while a further hike in December remains a live expectation. A pause next week would therefore not by itself signal an easier policy path.
Additional guidance should arrive with the PCE inflation report due on 29 October. Two factors will matter most for silver: how the Fed reads inflation pressure, and where energy prices go from here.
A mere pause would not remove the other burdens. Liquidity selling can keep shaping the tape while the weaker industrial demand outlook persists. A durable relief rally would have to reach beyond the next rate decision — and it would need both a technical reversal signal and an easing of pressure from rate and inflation expectations. The projected softness in industrial demand remains a risk in its own right.
