SoftBank Group has wrapped up the early redemption and cancellation of all its outstanding euro-denominated senior notes carrying a 2.875% coupon, the company said on 23 October. The bonds, issued in 2021, had originally been due on 6 January 2027. Unlike the equity commitment at LINE MAN, which is still pending, this repayment is done and dusted.

The same day brought board approval of an interim dividend of JPY 5.50 per share, applicable to the fiscal year ending 31 March 2027. The payout totals JPY 31,346 million, according to company figures, and is scheduled for 2 December 2026 — declared, in other words, but not yet in shareholders' hands.

LINE MAN Capital Raise Pushed to January

SoftBank also disclosed on Friday that it has postponed completion of the planned capital increase at LINE MAN CORPORATION PTE. LTD. The transaction covers 12,428,298 new shares for US$130 million. Rather than closing by the end of October 2026, it is now targeted for completion by the end of January 2027. SoftBank cited the parties' need for additional time to align the agreements.

Talks are likewise still in progress on an investment project in Malaysia. According to a Bloomberg report on Monday, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said SoftBank plans technology investments amounting to US$50 billion in the country. The portion of that total actually attributable to SoftBank was not specified. Artificial intelligence, new technologies and data centres sit at the heart of the plan, which remains under discussion.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying SoftBank Group?

Separately, Bloomberg reported on 16 October that SoftBank had weighed an acquisition of Allied Universal, with an equity value of up to US$18 billion under consideration. No agreement was reached, according to that report.

A Market Value Cut in Half, Then a Rebound

Investors' attention has been fixed on SoftBank's artificial intelligence spending and its financing costs. Bloomberg reported on 22 October that the group's market capitalisation had halved from its June peak, citing concerns about AI investments and borrowing costs.

Sentiment has swung sharply since. On Tuesday, SoftBank benefited from an AI-driven rally on Wall Street that lifted Asian technology stocks in its wake. According to media reports, the broader market move was the immediate trigger for the share price gain, not any fresh company-specific announcement.

SoftBank Group at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

By Friday, doubts over the profitability of AI spending were again weighing on the US tech sector. Investors fretted that the investments might not generate sufficient returns, media reports said, with worries about high interest rates potentially slowing data centre build-outs adding to the gloom. SoftBank shares shed 1.1% on Friday, though the report on the US tech selloff did not establish any concrete link to a simultaneous move in SoftBank stock.
