Take-Two: Two Bulls, One Unchanged Consensus, and the GTA VI Date Doing All the Work
Published on 10/27/2026 at 13:51 | Editorial boerse-global.deTwo brokerage houses are telling clients to stay long Take-Two Interactive into the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, yet neither call arrives with better earnings numbers behind it. BofA Securities trimmed its price target to USD 330 from USD 368 while keeping a Buy rating, and Freedom Capital Markets reaffirmed its own Buy with a USD 293.00 target. The cuts and reiterations move the valuation math, not the underlying thesis.
A Target Cut That Isn't a Retreat
BofA frames its lower target as valuation-driven rather than a break with the growth story. The firm still leans on the coming GTA VI release and the monetization of GTA Online that should follow. Its advice to investors: hold the position through the launch, which is slated for November 19.
That date anchors both calls. Freedom Capital's note points to the same planned release — November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S — as the event that should shape Take-Two's business around the sell-in. After earlier delays, the title is expected to drive both revenue potential and long-term online earnings, though both remain projections rather than booked results.
Where the Real Test Sits
BofA's longer view reaches past the boxed copy. The analysts single out GTA Online as a key earnings driver and expect a launch in the first calendar quarter of 2027 to make the monetization picture clearer. From there, the market could lift its long-term profit growth estimates — an expectation on the house's part, not a confirmed business trajectory.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Take-Two Interactive?
The valuation itself rests on those future profits. BofA applies a multiple of 16x to its expected earnings per share for fiscal 2028, which means the Buy rating depends materially on results that have yet to arrive rather than on current trading.
The Numbers Already on the Table
Recent reporting paints a mixed picture. In the first quarter of fiscal 2027, Take-Two booked net bookings of USD 1.39 billion — down 3% year over year but slightly ahead of forecasts. GAAP revenue rose 2% to USD 1.53 billion, while the company posted a net loss of USD 34.1 million.
Recurring consumer spending already carries substantial weight in the business, which helps explain why BofA emphasizes GTA Online's long-run revenue potential instead of focusing solely on the new title's debut. Management's own yardstick for fiscal 2027 is net bookings of between USD 8.0 billion and USD 8.2 billion.
Broad Cheers, Flat Estimates
Freedom Capital's endorsement puts it in crowded company. Of 29 brokerages tracked, 26 carry the highest "Strong Buy" rating and two more recommend buying; the remaining view is not specified. That is a strongly positive consensus — but applause is not the same as an upgrade to expected performance.
The distinction matters because the Zacks consensus earnings estimate for the current fiscal year stands at USD 6.99 per share and held steady over the past month. Zacks itself rates the stock a Hold and cautions about possible positive bias in brokerage recommendations. Two signals therefore sit side by side: analysts overwhelmingly favor the shares, while the pooled profit forecast has offered no fresh support.

Attention Has a Ceiling
Even the enormous buzz around the title has limits as a revenue source. Take-Two chief Strauss Zelnick confirmed, according to The Drum, that GTA VI will carry no in-game advertising, product placement, or partnerships with real-world brands. Public attention, in other words, cannot simply be booked as extra ad income.
The existing portfolio provides a base beyond the new release. The latest quarterly report showed revenue growth supported by current titles and recurring spending in live-service games, so the anticipated success of GTA VI lands on top of a business already running. What the reaffirmed Buy answers is where Freedom Capital stands. It does not prove higher profits are coming. Whether the launch and the revenue that follows can carry the lofty expectations is the question still open — and for now, wide analyst optimism sits opposite consensus estimates that have not budged.
