Thyssenkrupp: Hydrogen Tender, a Trimmed 15-Euro Fair Value and a Steel Listing Still in Preparation
Published on 10/30/2026 at 17:01 | Editorial boerse-global.deThyssenkrupp Steel is laying the groundwork for a fresh hydrogen tender tied to its tkH2Steel decarbonisation project, the company said, confirming the final adjustment of its funding. The announcement shifts attention to procurement — but a planned tender is not a signed supply contract, and investors should keep the two apart.
That distinction matters for how the news is read. Funding status and hydrogen sourcing are separate building blocks of the project, so nothing in today's update amounts to secured hydrogen supply. The stock, for its part, showed a daily move of -3.2%, which on its own says nothing about the funding adjustment or its economic consequences.
DZ Bank trims fair value to 15 euros
The more telling signal for shareholders came from DZ Bank, which cut its fair value for the shares from 16 to 15 euros while leaving its rating at "Buy." The analysts acknowledged progress on the restructuring but declined to attach a higher valuation to it. Yesterday's 2.3% gain does not answer the question either — a single positive session is no adequate yardstick for weighing completed changes against the larger tasks still ahead.
DZ Bank named the key test explicitly: the independence of Steel Europe is the bigger challenge. That pushes the number of finished structural measures into the background. What counts more is whether Thyssenkrupp finds a workable path for this unit too.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Thyssenkrupp?
CEO Miguel LĂłpez told Reuters on Wednesday that the group is preparing Steel Europe as a possible next IPO. A sale is not the stated goal, following unsuccessful partnership attempts. The wording is decisive: what is being prepared is an option, not a completed flotation. Investors may treat the preparation as a strategic prospect, but should not infer a certain outcome or a fixed contribution to value.
A completed spinoff as a measuring stick
The positive case rests on the ability to actually deliver announced changes. The spinoff of tk accelis was completed on Wednesday with its stock market debut; Thyssenkrupp retained 51%, and shareholders received one share in the new company for every 20 Thyssenkrupp shares held. DZ Bank classified the move as a further transformation milestone.
That gives a concrete implementation step against which future progress can be measured. A more favourable outcome would be conceivable if Thyssenkrupp carried this delivery record into its next tasks — no automatic proof of rising prices, but support for the expectation that the announced reorganisation is being realised step by step.
The counterargument carries weight: a finished chapter does not make the next one easier. The failed partnership attempts at Steel Europe are a reminder not to equate possible solutions with secured results. The preparation of an IPO does not remove that uncertainty.
Reading the price gap correctly
The share price around the spinoff also demands careful interpretation. dpa-AFX attributed the sharp optical discount on Wednesday to the carve-out of the spun-off stake. No operational setback can be derived from that alone — and conversely, the subsequent recovery proves no improvement in the business.
A weaker scenario would emerge if expectations for further structural progress went unmet. The cautious valuation from DZ Bank could then carry more weight than its unchanged Buy rating. Picking out only the positive rating while ignoring the simultaneous target cut would be a risky approach.
Uhde wins Canadian planning study
On the operating side, Thyssenkrupp Uhde received an order yesterday from a subsidiary of CF Industries for a FEED study covering a planned urea solution processing plant in Courtright, Ontario. According to CF Industries, the project could add more than 400,000 short tons of annual diesel exhaust fluid capacity — subject to a positive final investment decision. The study contract is confirmed; construction of the plant is not.
Thyssenkrupp at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
Additional context comes from the tk accelis spinoff. For the materials trading division, Thyssenkrupp targets a mid-term adjusted EBITDA margin of 4–5% and annual revenue growth of more than 4%. These are goals, not results already achieved.
The annual report as the next fixed checkpoint
The next scheduled date for financial assessment is the group's annual report for fiscal 2025/2026, due on 8 December 2026, alongside an annual press conference and an analyst and investor conference. That report offers an occasion to set the financial development beside the structural changes.
For the investment case, both must hold: the restructuring has to advance, and the business has to support the expectations tied to it. Progress on hydrogen procurement, further decisions on the Canadian project and the figures in the annual report are the evidence to watch. The recent announcements mark concrete steps — but they do not substitute for financial proof of success.
