Valeura Energy shares surged 10.0% on Wednesday to touch a fresh 52-week high of EUR 10.50, propelled by the Thai government's final approval of a strategic stake transfer in the Gulf of Thailand. The rally lifted the company's market capitalization to EUR 737.07 million, though the stock later settled at EUR 9.70 — still up 1.6% from the previous close.

At the heart of the buying interest is Tuesday's cabinet decision in Bangkok, which authorized PTTEP Energy Development Company Limited — a subsidiary of national energy firm PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP) — to transfer interests in offshore blocks G1/65 and G3/65 to Valeura. Under the farm-in arrangement, Valeura picks up an undivided 40% working interest in both blocks, covering 40% of costs incurred to date along with expenses for a 3D seismic survey spanning 163 square kilometers in the Nong Yao Northeast focus area. Total transaction costs were pegged at roughly USD 25.6 million as of the August 31, 2026 reference date. Regulatory clearance marks a key milestone for advancing exploration and development work across these acreage positions.

Operational Momentum Builds Alongside Portfolio Expansion

The political tailwind arrives on the heels of a productive stretch in Valeura's Thai concessions. The company unveiled the "Suraphi" discovery, a new find located close to the Manora oil field, where Valeura holds a 70% operating stake. In parallel, management confirmed the completion of a combined development and appraisal drilling campaign at the Jasmine field, which the company operates with a 100% interest and which serves as a cornerstone of its production base. Results from the Jasmine wells will now be evaluated to fine-tune the future development strategy for the block.

Further out, the Wassana field redevelopment on offshore block G10/48 — also 100% owned and operated by Valeura — is gathering pace. Mechanical completion of the facilities at the shipyard is expected as early as October 1, 2026, and the company has flagged the possibility of installing the equipment ahead of the original schedule. Should that happen, first oil from the new development could flow around the start of the second quarter of 2027.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Valeura Energy?

The accelerated timeline comes with a cost: Valeura has revised its full-year 2026 capital expenditure guidance upward to a range of USD 220 million to USD 235 million, compared with the previously planned corridor of USD 195 million to USD 215 million.

Record Quarter Underpins Growth Ambitions

Valeura's balance sheet is providing ample room to fund the ramp-up. Second-quarter 2026 results set new company records, with revenue of USD 259.8 million and average realized prices of USD 105.8 per barrel. Free cash flow came in at approximately USD 100 million — the strongest quarterly figure in the firm's history. Back in July, the company also secured a revolving credit facility of USD 75 million, which includes an accordion option that could expand the borrowing capacity to as much as USD 325 million.

Recognition has followed on multiple fronts. On September 10, Valeura was named among the winners of the Toronto Stock Exchange's TSX30 program for 2026, while simultaneously receiving the EIA Monitoring Award 2026 from Thailand's Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning for exemplary environmental oversight.

Technical Picture Reflects Sustained Rebound

From a chart perspective, the stock has traveled a long way from its lows. At the current level of EUR 9.70, Valeura trades roughly 22% above its 50-day moving average and about 147% above its 52-week trough, underscoring the scale of the recovery even as intraday volatility trimmed earlier gains.
