Wienerberger will publish its first nine months of 2026 results on 12 November, the same day it has promised an update on its strategic review and accelerated cost-cutting programme. The brickmaker heads into that date with its earnings outlook already cut and its share price under pressure, after a weaker-than-expected September upturn collided with sharply higher input costs.

The company is grappling with a sluggish recovery in residential construction in the UK, the US and Canada. The seasonal pick-up in September came in below its own expectations, and management has flagged energy, raw material and logistics expenses as rising markedly since late August. Price increases and efficiency measures failed to fully offset that increase in the third quarter, leaving weaker demand and higher costs pulling in the same direction.

Guidance Already Trimmed

Wienerberger has lowered its EBITDA forecast for the 2026 financial year to EUR 640–650 million, citing both the disappointing demand trend and the cost pressure. For the third quarter itself, its business information pointed to revenue of roughly EUR 1.2–1.3 billion and operating EBITDA of about EUR 170–180 million — expectations rather than published quarterly figures. Alongside the strategic review, the group has sped up its cost optimisation efforts.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Wienerberger?

The stock slipped 1.5% on Friday to close at EUR 16.14, extending a decline that followed Thursday's round of target revisions. The guidance step-down has been identified as the fundamental trigger behind the recent downward move.

A Divided Analyst Camp

On Field Investment Research reiterated its neutral rating on Thursday but cut its price target sharply, from EUR 33.0 to EUR 20.0, without changing its recommendation. Jefferies also opened coverage with a hold and a EUR 16 target, pointing to a lack of conviction that US housing starts will recover soon; the broker sees any meaningful European demand impulse arriving closer to 2027 and stressed the near-term dependence on the outcome of the strategic review.

Berenberg, by contrast, trimmed its target from EUR 25 to EUR 19 about a week ago while keeping its buy recommendation. The Hamburg-based house cited higher mortgage rates and inflation as the drags on the business.

With the shares changing hands near the level of the most cautious targets on the Street, the 12 November disclosure will carry weight beyond the nine-month figures themselves — the strategic review and cost programme update may matter as much as the numbers.
