Wienerberger Faces Margin Squeeze From Weak Construction Demand as Analysts Split on Valuation

Wienerberger is contending with a two-sided squeeze: soft demand for new housing and a sharply higher cost base. The brickmaker singles out residential construction in the UK and North America as particular drags, while one analyst note adds that there is little near-term conviction in a demand recovery. Expectations trimmed roughly two weeks ago therefore reflect pressure on both volumes and costs.

Divergent Calls, Lower Targets

The analyst community has not converged on a single view. On Field Investment Research reaffirmed its "Neutral" rating on 22 October but cut its price target from EUR 33.0 to EUR 20.0, according to media reports. UBS, by contrast, maintained its sell recommendation while lowering its target from EUR 18.00 to EUR 14.50 roughly two weeks ago, and — per APA — also reduced its earnings estimates substantially. In both cases the rating stayed put; only the target moved.

Jefferies initiated coverage of Wienerberger around two weeks ago with a "Hold" rating and a EUR 16 target, citing the lack of short-term confidence in a demand rebound and the company's focus on its strategic review and debt reduction.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Wienerberger?

At EUR 16.38, the share price sits between the two revised targets — below On Field's EUR 20.0 and above UBS's EUR 14.50.

A Stake Disclosure Distinct From the Rating

Separate from its analyst stance, UBS Group AG reported a reduction in its aggregate position in Wienerberger to 4.20% of voting rights and financial instruments, down from 4.49%, a little over a week ago. Shares accounted for just 0.55%, with financial instruments making up 3.65%. Wienerberger characterized the filing as voluntary and noted a threshold was crossed at subsidiary level.

Guidance Points to EUR 640–650 Million EBITDA

In its already-announced profit warning for fiscal 2026, Wienerberger guided to operating EBITDA of EUR 640–650 million. Alongside weaker demand, management flagged significantly higher energy, raw material and logistics costs as the triggers.

The company has scheduled publication of its nine-month report for 12 November 2026. On the same day it will provide an update on the strategic review and on accelerated cost-optimization measures, followed by a conference call — bundling the earnings release with both closely watched topics.
