Wienerberger Target Slashed to EUR 16.40 by Wiener Privatbank as Housing Recovery Disappoints
Published on 10/25/2026 at 18:20 | Editorial boerse-global.deWienerberger is contending with a weaker-than-expected rebound in construction activity and sharply higher costs, a combination that has forced the Austrian brickmaker to scale back its earnings ambitions for the year. The company's own assessment points to particularly frail new-build residential demand in the UK, the US and Canada.
The hoped-for pick-up in building activity came in softer than anticipated in September, Wienerberger said. Energy, raw materials and logistics all became markedly more expensive over the same stretch. Both the demand side and the cost side therefore fed into the reduced profit outlook.
Guidance Cut and Third-Quarter Expectations
Roughly three weeks ago, Wienerberger lowered its full-year 2026 operating EBITDA forecast to EUR 640–650 million. For the third quarter of 2026, the company had been expecting revenue of around EUR 1.2–1.3 billion and operating EBITDA of about EUR 170–180 million. Those figures reflect expectations from the trading report at the time, not quarterly results that have already been published.
Alongside the guidance reduction, Wienerberger announced accelerated cost optimisation measures and a strategic review, its response to persistent demand weakness and the higher cost base.

Analysts Split on the Recovery Story
Jefferies initiated coverage with a hold rating and a EUR 16 price target, according to media reports, pointing to a lack of short-term demand catalysts. The strategic review sat at the centre of the house's assessment, and it flagged near-term dependence on the outcome of that review. Berenberg, by contrast, trimmed its target to EUR 19 from EUR 25 about a week ago while keeping its buy recommendation, citing higher mortgage rates and inflation as drags.
Wiener Privatbank also reaffirmed its hold recommendation in the analyst reactions roughly a week ago, media reports indicated, while cutting its price target to EUR 16.40 from EUR 23.10.
The shares slipped 1.5% on Friday to EUR 16.14, with the guidance step the fundamental trigger behind the recent downward move. Voting rights disclosures published on Friday additionally documented changes at UBS Group AG.
