XRP Holds Firm as Ripple Hardens Ledger and Legal Ground Alike

XRP trades near $1.50 as an emergency XRP Ledger patch, Bitget's $387.5M hack aftermath, and Ripple's legal remarks shape the week.

A pair of unrelated developments — one a hurried software patch, the other a legal rebuttal — have given XRP traders plenty to weigh at the start of the week, even as the token itself barely budged.

The cryptocurrency changed hands near $1.50 on Monday, down 1.8% on the day but still roughly 13% above its 50-day moving average of $1.33. Over the trailing seven sessions, the picture looks brighter still: XRP has climbed 7.8% in that window, and it now trades about 14% north of the same $1.33 trendline on that basis.

A Protocol Patch Arrives Off Schedule

Underpinning the network's near-term agenda is an emergency release from the XRP Ledger Foundation and RippleX's developer team. Version xrpld v3.4.1 landed last Friday, carrying the protocol amendment fixBatchV1_2, which is designed to reliably reject malformed internal transactions packaged inside batches.

Node operators and validators were urged to install the update without delay, lest unsupported network rules stall the chain. Source code publication is being deliberately held back for now, a precaution meant to deny would-be attackers a head start. Press reports noted that validator approval had briefly dipped below the 80% threshold required to activate the change.

Once live, the feature will let up to eight transactions settle as a single bundle — confirmed together or failed in full. RippleX told CoinDesk that asset managers and other commercial projects are already gearing up to use the mechanism.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XRP?

Bitget Hack Still Casting a Shadow

Running alongside that technical housekeeping is the aftermath of the September 24 breach at crypto exchange Bitget. After revising its damage estimate upward, the platform put its adjusted total loss at roughly $387.5 million.

Of the approximately 102.98 million XRP taken, unknown parties had moved 27.63 million units out of two attacker-controlled accounts by last Saturday. Bitget responded by halting external XRP withdrawals, with a planned reopening on October 2 at 08:00 UTC. On-chain analysis by Bitquery found that 75.35 million units remained parked in six monitored wallets, while portions of the funds that did move were routed toward Bitcoin via the THORChain protocol.

No evidence of direct spot selling surfaced in the early going. Bitget said deposits and ordinary trading continued as normal, and that customer balances are backstopped by a protection fund exceeding $464 million.

Ripple Insists Legal Clarity Is Already Settled

The theft has done nothing to shake Ripple's confidence in XRP's regulatory standing. Chief Legal Officer Stuart Alderoty said yesterday that the token's status does not hinge on how the US Clarity Act fares in the Senate.

That clarity, he argued, was sealed by the outcome of the company's litigation with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Joint SEC and CFTC guidance, he added, classifies XRP and comparable digital assets as commodities. The remarks push back on worries that legislative delays in Congress could reopen questions about XRP's treatment.

Chart Watchers See a Pattern, and a Test

Technically, the token continues to defend key levels despite the daily dip. Trader Peter Brandt has pointed to a possible inverse head-and-shoulders formation on the weekly chart, though he has paired that observation with caution about circulating supply and valuation fundamentals.

For market participants, much now depends on whether the remaining Bitget-attack holdings can be absorbed in an orderly fashion — a question that will share the stage with Wednesday's scheduled shareholder votes at Evernorth and Armada Acquisition Corp. II on their planned merger, which if approved would clear the way for a Nasdaq listing under the ticker XRPN.

Institutional flows, meanwhile, continue to lend support. US spot XRP ETFs reportedly drew roughly $80 million in net inflows during September, with close to $53 million of that arriving across the trading stretch from September 22 to September 24 alone.
