Nike Tests Local Product Demand
Nike released its first running shoe designed specifically for India on Flipkart on November 1. The Vegam Run is priced at INR 3,795 and was developed in about five months, according to a Reuters report published by The Hindu BusinessLine.
The launch gives Nike a locally tailored product as it seeks new growth in India. Reuters reported that Nike's global running business has grown by double digits for six consecutive quarters, but said the performance category is not yet large enough to offset pressure in sportswear, the Jordan brand and Greater China.
China sales have declined for nine consecutive quarters, according to the same report. That contrast leaves running and market-specific product development as important tests for Nike's broader turnaround strategy.
Broader risk appetite can be tracked through the S&P 500 market reports.
