A truck carrying a full load of KitKat chocolate bars has disappeared without a trace, just ahead of the Easter holiday. The incident, involving the theft of over 400,000 individual bars weighing approximately 12 metric tons, occurred during a shipment from central Italy to Poland. Neither the vehicle nor its cargo has been located.
A Public Appeal from Nestlé
Confirming the event on March 28, KitKat stated that 413,793 units of its new chocolate range were stolen. The truck had departed a manufacturing facility in central Italy and was roughly 1,300 kilometers into its journey to Poland when it was taken.
In a deliberate move, Nestlé has chosen to publicize the case. The company aims to highlight cargo theft as an escalating issue affecting businesses of all scales. Investigations are currently underway in cooperation with local law enforcement and supply chain partners.

This event occurs as Nestlé undergoes a corporation-wide restructuring, focusing its portfolio on four core business areas. KitKat is considered one of its most strategically vital brands. For the ongoing 2026 season, the brand is an official Formula 1 partner, featuring at twelve races.
On the financial markets, Nestlé shares showed little reaction. Trading at around €82.56, the stock remains slightly below its 200-day moving average of €83.
