A new wave of intelligent assistants is taking over tasks once handled by human staff—processing payroll, scheduling workflows, and even acting as a digital chief of staff. The shift toward what the industry calls “agentic AI” has triggered a spending spree among enterprise software vendors, with Barcelona-based Factorial leading the charge by raising roughly $700 million to expand into Germany.
Factorial’s German Ambitions
Factorial secured the financing in two parts: a Series-D equity round of $150 million led by General Catalyst, giving the company a valuation of $2.5 billion, and $540 million in debt from General Catalyst’s Customer Value Fund. The company plans to open a new office in Munich and hire 50 additional employees, positioning itself as a direct rival to the German HR-software provider Personio. Factorial already serves more than 16,000 businesses across 90 countries and is evolving into an AI-driven platform for human-resource processes.
As HR departments adopt AI to handle compliance tasks, one area that often gets overlooked is health and safety regulation—especially the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974. Many UK employers are unknowingly non-compliant, risking fines and legal exposure. A free toolkit provides an instant checklist and risk assessment templates to identify gaps. Download the free Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 Toolkit and ensure your workplace meets legal requirements.
AI Teammates Go Live
Meanwhile, Asana used its Work Innovation Summit in London on Thursday to unveil “Agentic Work Management,” a suite that includes digital “AI teammates” and a virtual chief of staff named Asana Dash. The logistics giant FedEx reports saving several hundred thousand dollars annually and cutting product launch times by ninefold since adopting the system.
On Wednesday, Meta Platforms introduced an AI business agent at its WhatsApp conference in London. The agent independently handles payments, processes bookings, and places orders by connecting to third-party systems such as Shopify and Zendesk. The service is free for now, but Meta is already planning paid subscription tiers.
Also on Wednesday, greytHR launched its AI assistant NAVOS, which intervenes in payroll, recruitment, and performance management. More than 34,000 organizations use the platform, which processes annual salary payments exceeding $23 billion.
Legal-Tech and Public Sector Digitize
In Berlin, the legal-tech startup nu:legal announced on Wednesday that it had raised €1.3 million in a round led by Caesar Ventures, coinciding with the public beta of its platform for labor law and data protection. The tool targets small and medium-sized enterprises. According to the startup’s research, German SMEs spend an average of 32 hours per month on legal tasks, creating an annual cost burden of €61 billion.
Across the Atlantic, the U.S. state of Utah went live on Thursday with a new SaaS-based human-capital-management and payroll platform developed by CGI. The solution, called “CGI Advantage,” replaces outdated legacy systems and integrates directly with the state’s existing financial systems, aiming for more accurate payroll processing and more efficient hiring.
ServiceNow Rides the AI Wave
On Tuesday, ServiceNow’s stock jumped 9.2 percent to $135.86 after Nvidia executives highlighted the growing importance of AI in enterprise software during the Computex conference. ServiceNow responded by raising its full-year revenue forecast to a range of $15.735 billion to $15.775 billion, representing 22 to 22.5 percent growth. The company has set a target of surpassing $30 billion in revenue by 2030.
While AI streamlines payroll and hiring, protecting your workforce from safety risks remains a core legal duty. The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 toolkit offers nine ready-to-use tools—including risk assessments and director liability guides—to help you stay compliant without extra hours. Over 37,000 UK businesses already rely on it. Get the free Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 Toolkit and avoid costly penalties.
The performance-management tools market also saw fresh assessments this week. The leading platforms for 2026, according to industry analysts, include Performance Pro, Mitratech Perform, and Leapsome. Buyers increasingly evaluate these products on their ability to automate performance cycles and embed 360-degree feedback mechanisms, underscoring the relentless push toward data-driven, automated HR operations.
