The Kansas City Police Department has turned to DroneShield as the primary detection and response layer for an integrated counter-drone system protecting 2026 World Cup venues and fan zones. The contract flows from the C-UAS grant program operated by the Department of Homeland Security and FEMA, which has already distributed $250 million to eleven World Cup host states. A further $250 million is earmarked for fiscal year 2027, extending eligibility to all states and territories — a funding pipeline that transforms isolated pilot projects into a sustained procurement channel.

This week, the company is also showcasing its portable DroneGun and the fixed DroneSentry-X system at the SOF Week conference in Tampa, the premier gathering for US special operations forces. The event, running from May 19 to 21, connects buyers from the US security apparatus with counter-electronics suppliers at a time when DroneShield is racing to expand its domestic production footprint. The company is doubling its US manufacturing capacity and is now running four months ahead of its original schedule, with Ray Fitzgerald, president of the US subsidiary, targeting completion within six to nine months. "The US is the largest market of all, so we need to be able to react quickly," Fitzgerald said. Local assembly, stable supply chains, and additional staffing are the priorities, alongside new capabilities to counter more complex drone swarms.

Operational momentum is backed by a sharp rise in first-quarter revenue, which jumped 121 percent to A$74.1 million. Customer payments reached A$77.4 million, and operating cash flow hit a record A$24.1 million. The balance sheet shows A$222.8 million in cash and no debt. The project pipeline includes 312 active opportunities worth a combined A$2.2 billion, with roughly half coming from Europe. The SaaS segment expanded 205 percent, though it still represents only seven percent of total revenue; management’s target is one-third by 2030. A new regional hub is being set up in Amsterdam, and a production line in an unnamed EU member state is slated to begin delivering locally assembled systems from mid-2026.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying DroneShield?

Yet that strong operational picture is colliding with a regulatory cloud. The Australian Securities and Investments Commission is investigating DroneShield’s disclosures from November 2025 and executive share transactions over the same period, focusing on whether insider trading and continuous disclosure rules were followed. The probe has weighed heavily on investor sentiment. The stock closed at €1.74 on Wednesday, down 3.27 percent, and sits well below its 50-day moving average of €2.24. Over the past week the shares have shed 14.22 percent, and over the month the loss extends to 21.27 percent. On a twelve-month view, however, the stock still shows a gain of 150.79 percent.

Analyst opinion is divided. Jefferies rates the shares a Hold with a target of A$3.70, while Bell Potter is more bullish, assigning a Buy and a fair value of A$4.80. The contracted annual revenue for 2026 stands at A$154.8 million.

Two dates will test management’s ability to restore confidence. The annual general meeting in Sydney on May 29 will see new CEO Angus Bean make his first public appearance in the top job. Shareholders will vote on his remuneration package, which includes 290,375 performance options as a long-term component. Hamish McLennan, the former REA Group chief, takes over as chairman. Then on June 3, the next quarterly results are due. The sequence gives the market a clear path to weigh governance first and operational data second. If the order flow continues to accelerate and the legal overhang is credibly addressed, the US expansion story could again overshadow the trust discount priced into the stock. A potential catalyst lies in a planned NATO supplier pool for counter-drone systems expected to be formed by summer 2026. Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium, which will host six World Cup matches, serves as the live test bed for that broader ambition.
