The busiest time for job interviews is no longer the morning rush hour. More than half of all AI-conducted recruitment interactions now happen outside the traditional workday, according to data from staffing giant Adecco, which recently tallied over 1.2 million automated engagements with applicants across ten countries.
Of those interactions, roughly 250,000 were fully fledged interviews carried out by AI agents for some 50,000 open positions. Candidates rated the experience 4.3 out of 5, and client satisfaction followed suit. The result: time-to-fill was cut in half in lead markets, and placement rates climbed above 80 percent. Adecco reports that its AI agents now handle seven different phases of the recruitment process.
The agency's success is part of a broader shift. The Global AI Jobs Barometer 2026 from PwC found that companies using AI to augment human expertise are growing headcount 52 percent faster than those without the technology, which posted a 36 percent gain. Productivity growth also diverges sharply: 34 percent in AI-enabled firms versus 24 percent in laggards. Demand for AI specialists has nearly doubled since 2024, with job postings surging.
Despite the clear advantages, many employers have struggled to integrate AI tools into existing software. Fusemachines, a provider of AI agents for hiring, now offers a platform that connects with more than 30 different applicant-tracking systems (ATS). Enterprise clients can assess candidates and create shortlists directly inside the tools their recruiters already use.
In the DACH region, AQIIDO HR has built a digital ecosystem that links companies, staffing agencies, and network partners. The firm is developing an EU-wide candidate database intended to improve matching and reduce cold outreach.
Startups are piling into the space. Berlin-based WhyBrilliant has launched a public beta of its voice-based AI career agent. Two specialized agents, Nova and Atlas, scan more than a million job advertisements daily. The project is backed by a €1 million pre-seed round from Merantix Capital.
Other newcomers focus on resumes and screening. Luxia.cl specializes in ATS optimization, while JobVantage offers an engine that automatically matches profiles with job ads. In education, EBSCOlearning released an AI-powered resume builder for libraries and schools. Indian startup Offrd introduced an AI screening system to speed up initial candidate filtering.
The trajectory is clear: the entire recruitment chain is being digitized, with an emphasis on seamless integration into existing corporate infrastructure rather than standalone tools.
