LPKF Laser Faces Dual Pressure: Shareholder Rebellion and a Stock Correction as the Market Waits for Orders
30.05.2026 - 18:17:05 | boerse-global.de
The story of LPKF Laser is being written on two separate pages, and neither offers much comfort to investors this week. While the company’s shares suffered a sharp 8.75% single-day decline to close at €21.90 on Friday, the leadership is facing a revolt from its own owners ahead of the June annual general meeting. The stock’s spectacular 264% year-to-date gain has given way to a 25% drop from the 52-week high of €29.20 touched on May 25, leaving shareholders to weigh the promise of the LIDE glass-substrate technology against the absence of the production orders that would turn vision into revenue.
The AGM is set to become a showdown over strategy. Management is pushing “North Star,” a cost-cutting plan designed to deliver a double-digit EBIT margin by 2028. A shareholder counter-motion, however, refuses to grant the board discharge and instead demands a capital increase to fund an aggressive commercial push for Laser Induced Deep Etching (LIDE). Critics argue that the company is squandering a critical window in the semiconductor sector by focusing on efficiency rather than capturing market share in advanced packaging.
To address that very challenge, the supervisory board has proposed adding Dr. Arne Schneider, CEO of Elmos Semiconductor, to the committee. Schneider’s deep ties in Asia and North America are expected to accelerate LIDE’s path to series production. But whether a new face in the boardroom can pacify activist owners remains an open question.
LPKF’s management, meanwhile, has been beating the drum at industry gatherings. The company exhibited at the iTGV 2026 forum in Wuxi, which centres on glass substrates and through-glass-via technologies, and also attended the ECTC 2026 conference in Orlando, a key meeting point for electronics packaging and semiconductor manufacturing. The events place LPKF in the right rooms – among foundries, material suppliers and equipment makers – yet no new orders have been announced. Visibility is not the problem; validation is.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying LPKF Laser?
The financials underscore the gap between market expectations and operational reality. First-quarter revenue came in at €17.1 million, down sharply from €25.3 million a year earlier. The reported EBIT loss widened to minus €6.9 million from minus €3.9 million, while adjusted EBIT stood at minus €5.7 million. Management cited a weak solar business as a drag. The one bright spot was order intake, which rose to €24.1 million from €20.5 million, pushing the book-to-bill ratio to 1.4.
That order pipeline is the thread the bulls are hanging onto. LPKF noted in its quarterly report that several customers are holding concrete talks about first production tools for LIDE, and the technology is already running in test and R&D environments at numerous semiconductor clients. But the market wants a signature on a contract, not another slide deck.
From a technical standpoint, the stock is in a curious state. The relative strength index has plunged to 20.3, a level that typically signals a strong oversold condition. The 30-day annualized volatility stands at a staggering 149%, reflecting the uncertainty that surrounds the name. Yet despite the recent sell-off, LPKF shares still trade at a 40.2% premium above the 50-day moving average of €15.62. The correction has been violent, but the preceding rally was even more extreme.
LPKF Laser at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
What happens next depends entirely on whether those trade-show conversations turn into binding orders. The LIDE technology is widely regarded as a potential game-changer for glass substrates in advanced semiconductor packaging, but the company’s current valuation rests on that promise alone. Without a concrete production order, the stock remains vulnerable to further swings and more profit-taking. With one, the entire narrative snaps into focus – and the AGM grumbling would be far easier to ignore.
