Billy Joel releases Tonight on 2xLP in the United Kingdom on 27 November 2026, as part of Record Store Day’s Black Friday programme. The release draws on archival material from the Turnstiles era rather than presenting a newly recorded studio album.
Tonight brings Turnstiles-era recordings to Record Store Day
The Record Store Day listing identifies Tonight as a Black Friday 2026 release, with Legacy named as label and rock as genre. It lists the format as two black vinyl LPs and describes the material as previously unreleased live and demo recordings connected with Turnstiles.
The official anniversary announcement places the vinyl item within a wider expanded edition. That project is described as a definitive 4CD and Blu-ray box with 67 audio tracks, including 54 previously unreleased recordings.
Billy Joel’s New York songwriting meets an archival release
Billy Joel is an American singer, pianist and songwriter whose catalogue moves through pop, rock and ballad writing. His identity is closely tied to the piano-led narrative style heard across records such as Piano Man, Streetlife Serenade, Turnstiles and The Stranger.
The new vinyl item is anchored to a specific part of that catalogue rather than presented as a new studio album. Its connection to Turnstiles also links the release to the New York musical identity associated with Joel’s songwriting and piano performance.
Why the 2xLP matters for collectors
Record Store Day lists two black vinyl LPs, not a CD or digital package, and names Legacy as the label. The release therefore offers a focused physical edition built around live and demo material from Turnstiles.
The wider anniversary set is described as a multi-format presentation, while Tonight offers its vinyl component in a compact form. That distinction separates a focused record-shop release from the more extensive box built around the same album.
