Eric Clapton releases The Road To Escondido: Enhanced Edition on 20 November 2026, revisiting his collaboration with J.J. Cale. The release adds unreleased studio recordings, live performances and new liner notes.
The Road To Escondido returns in expanded form
Bushbranch/Surfdog Records lists the 20 November release as a 20th anniversary edition of the collaborative album with J.J. Cale. The label says the package will arrive digitally, on CD and on 180-gram Rusty Red and Sky Blue vinyl.
The Blues Magazine details the expanded edition and its additional recordings. The new set adds three previously unreleased songs from the original sessions, three live performances from Live in San Diego and fresh liner notes. That places archival studio material beside stage recordings in the same package.
Clapton and Cale share a roots-music language
The collaboration is grounded in Cale’s influence on Clapton’s music. Clapton recorded Cale’s After Midnight and Cocaine, while their shared release draws on blues, rock, country and folk.
The expanded edition extends that musical conversation instead of presenting unrelated bonus material. Its added recordings return to the original sessions and to the live setting associated with the Cale-Clapton partnership.
Six additional recordings shape the new set
The three studio additions are Wrong No More, I Got To Find My Baby and Roll On. They come from the original recording sessions and have remained unreleased until this edition.
The three live additions are Who Am I Telling You?, Anyway The Wind Blows and Don’t Cry Sister, each identified as a performance from Live in San Diego. Together, the six tracks broaden the album with both studio discoveries and concert recordings.
