Eric Clapton will release The Road To Escondido: Enhanced Edition on 20 November 2026 through Bushbranch/Surfdog Records. The 20th anniversary edition revisits his collaboration with J.J. Cale with unreleased studio material and live recordings.
The Road To Escondido expands the original collaboration
The expanded release adds three previously unreleased songs from the original recording sessions, three performances from Live in San Diego and new liner notes. Roll On, one of the newly issued songs, features Clapton and Cale with Billy Preston and John Mayer.
Release details list digital, CD and 180-gram Rusty Red and Sky Blue vinyl editions. The Blues Magazine’s album details specify a 2CD package and a 2LP set, alongside the digital version. New liner notes complete the package, while the three bonus studio tracks are named Wrong No More, I Got To Find My Baby and Roll On.
Eric Clapton and J.J. Cale share a roots-music language
The pairing joins two musicians whose work sits across blues, rock, country and folk. The collaboration is rooted in Cale’s understated songwriting and guitar approach, while Clapton brings his blues-rock style to the joint recording.
The album’s musical route can be heard in Clapton’s recordings of Cale compositions such as After Midnight and Cocaine. The expanded edition places studio archive material and live performances beside the collaboration itself, giving the release a broader view of their work together.
