John Legend releases Muse, first full album with Pharrell, 23 October

John Legend released his album Muse on 23 October 2026. The record is his first full album with Pharrell Williams, who produced and co-wrote it in full.

John Legend’s Muse arrived with Pharrell Williams

Muse arrived as a studio album built around the partnership between the singer and Pharrell Williams. The Voice account of the release confirms the date and collaboration, while LaPresse lists the CD and vinyl editions.

Pharrell Williams produced and co-wrote the album in full. Muse is their first full album together after more than twenty years of friendship. The collaboration connects the record with Legend’s established R&B identity and Williams’ wider production palette.

John Legend’s R&B foundations shape the new album

Legend’s musical identity is rooted in R&B, soul, piano and songwriting. The GRAMMY biography places his origins in Springfield, Ohio and identifies Get Lifted as his debut album. It also records three early Grammy wins: Best R&B Album, Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Best New Artist.

Those foundations remain visible in the new project’s blend of vocal writing, piano tradition and contemporary production. The album extends the piano-led R&B language associated with Legend into Williams’ broader palette. Gospel, soul and hip-hop textures add further colour to the record.

Muse links Clipse, gospel and cinematic pop

Several tracks define the album’s collaborative frame. Bodies On The Floor features Clipse, and its video places Legend at the piano alongside the duo. Another preview, Pray For Ya, brought gospel influences into the project before the album arrived.

The album draws on doo-wop, Afrobeats and hip-hop alongside its R&B base. The release came through Republic Records.
