Daimler Truck is navigating a significant technological transition, underscored by two simultaneous announcements: the upcoming launch of a battery-electric truck for the construction industry and a planned change in leadership for its development division.

Leadership Transition Set for 2026

The company has confirmed a forthcoming change at the helm of its Mercedes-Benz Trucks development unit. Effective 1 October 2026, Marcus Ekman (51) will assume the leadership role. He succeeds Rainer Müller-Finkeldei, who is retiring after more than three decades with the group. Ekman will take charge during a period where substantial investments in electric drivetrains are pressuring margins. In response, management has outlined ambitious efficiency targets for the research and development department.

Electric Truck for Urban Construction Sites

Central to the company's strategic pivot is the Mercedes-Benz eArocs 400, a battery-electric heavy-duty truck designed specifically for the construction sector. This move addresses a notable gap in the commercial electric vehicle market, which has seen faster adoption in long-haul and distribution logistics than in heavy construction equipment. The vehicle, which premiered at the Bauma trade fair in Munich, will officially be available for order starting April 2026.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Daimler Truck?

The eArocs is strategically focused on noise-sensitive urban construction zones. In these areas, zero emissions and reduced noise levels are increasingly becoming prerequisites for winning contracts. For Daimler Truck, this represents a critical component in strengthening its market position in alternative powertrains.

Market Reaction and Upcoming Financial Test

These strategic developments have so far generated limited excitement among investors. The share price recently traded slightly below its 50-day moving average of approximately €41.90. Analyst opinions remain divided. Goldman Sachs maintains a price target of €45, while Bernstein Research expresses greater skepticism with an "Underperform" rating and a €34 target. Bernstein cites high inventory levels and ongoing price pressure within the industry as key concerns.

The first concrete financial insights will come with the Q1 2026 results, scheduled for release on 6 May. Market participants will scrutinize whether recently implemented cost-saving measures are taking effect and if signs of an anticipated order intake recovery in the second half of the year are emerging. The current consensus estimate for Daimler Truck's 2026 earnings per share stands at around €3.56.
